“A really cool selection of melodic, catchy songs that combine lyrical edge with melodic combustion, SLOPEY showcases a beautiful heart-worn, “folk-soul” voice.”

Most of the songs on this album were recorded at home in Rush, Co. Dublin where alongside a bevy of new songs the remainder were taken from Hugh’s extensive back-catalogue; the recording approach favours an ear for intimacy with the listener, soon drawing you into a broader landscape as the album progresses.

One of the songs on this album deserves particular mention. This specially commissioned song accompanies a slideshow in the closing scenes of a play by Ray Murray and Des Hogan called ‘Swollen Virtue’ (Directed by Ray Murray). The play is about the Stockholm syndrome, an industrialists daughter and the desperate acts of dis-engaged NGO’s! The slideshow provides some context for the play, showing statistics and images - both striking! Hopefully the music serves it well.

This 6 track mini-album was recorded in Piemonte, Italy, with the help of local folk group ‘In the Kitchen’. It originally sold on cassette. I’m in the process of digitally re-mastering the tracks and hope to have it online by the end of the year. Sample track below, which is set in an Italian town called Faenza as it happens, which the accordion, mandola and whistle etc. evoke really well - fantastico!
